From the President. . .November 2015

Dear Members,

The holiday season will be upon us in just a few short weeks. Before we get there however the MVCA will be assisting Mobile Meals of Toledo with their Wine Gala on Saturday November 7th at Parkway Plaza. We will need volunteers that evening to assist with the set-up, finishing and plating of appetizers that have been donated for this event. This will be a great opportunity for our student members to get some hands on experience with the execution process of a large event. If anyone is able to assist please get in contact with Chef Marcel at as he is coordinating the MVCA’s involvement in the Wine Gala.

If you attended the meeting last month you learned from Chef Dave that avoiding burn-out is an essential part of staying healthy and happy in our jobs and our home life. It is especially easy during this busy time of year for all of us to stretch ourselves to our limits and beyond with holiday obligation both at work and at home. I want to encourage all of you to make sure that you take time for yourselves during this holiday season. Trust the teams you’ve built, delegate what you can, and don’t stay late or take things home that can legitimately wait until tomorrow.

We are currently seeking both meeting venues and presenters for educational seminars. We currently need meeting venues for the December meeting as well as April and May of 2016. If you would like to host us at your establishment please reach out to any of the board members and let us know so we can work out the details with you. Anyone can be a presenter for an educational seminar from student to professional we are always looking for engaging culinary related topics to present to the membership. Presentations don’t need to be complicated and should be about 30 minutes in length and can be about any food -related topic that you are well versed in be it knife cuts, sauces, mise en place, the list goes on.
